Cornelia “Corrie” de Ronde (nee van Liere) 95, a longtime resident of New Windsor, NY, passed away on April 18, 2024. Corrie was born and raised in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and immigrated to the United States in 1954. Corrie was predeceased by her husband Jan “John” de Ronde, sisters Alice, Johanna and Annie and brothers Krijn and Adrianus. Corrie is survived by her sister Elisabeth “Beppie” of the Netherlands. Although Corrie did not have children of her own, she was a second mother to her nephews Robert D’Emilio and Peter Hakkenberg of New Jersey and nieces Corine Haak of the Netherlands and Tanja (Haak) O’Riordan of Ireland. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces Ria, Peter and Jacolien of the Netherlands and Ashlee, John, David and Autum of New Jersey along with many great nieces and nephews abroad and by many loving friends.
Corrie and her husband started their journey in the United States in Chicago before moving to the Hudson Valley to work as caretakers in Mountainville, NY. Eventually, they purchased an apartment complex which Corrie managed for over 50 years. Corrie was a talented seamstress and cook. Most of all, Corrie cherished her beloved large garden where she cultivated vegetables and flowers that she shared generously with her family and friends. Many of us credit her with our love of gardening and cooking and still use many of her recipes and gardening tips to this day. When not gardening or cooking, Corrie enjoyed listening to classical music and attending Broadway shows and the Opera. Most of all Corrie cherished spending time with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, consider supporting a Community Supported Agriculture program or local organic farm in your area so that Corrie’s love of gardening will be passed on to subsequent generations.
